Alex Miller | Shop Assistant/Intern
“Woodworking is like meditation for me. I’m completely focused,” Alex says. “It’s been my passion since I took my first woodworking classes in high school.”
When he’s not studying at the university, he’s soaking up the real-world training in the shop at NewStudio. “People here have taken me under their wings and given me opportunities to put my touch on their projects. It’s exciting to be part of something bigger than making things on my own—which I also love!” Alex added.
Alex’s enthusiasm for design is unmistakable and it’s already launching him into leadership positions at school. When he first arrived on campus his freshman semester, Alex immediately sought out the architecture school’s workshop. He told the professor in charge about his work experience. Alex explains, “Usually, first-years aren’t really allowed in the workshop, but I walked out of there with a job offer! I’m going to help keep students safe, while I get to do what I love. I am super stoked!”
