Get to know... the Brooklyn Office

We now have three employees in the Brooklyn office! We asked them some hard-hitting questions, to discover more about our teammates out east...

CHRISTOPHER MOY

The newest addition to the Brooklyn staff is Chris Moy. Chris just moved to Brooklyn from Philadelphia, where he worked for famed retail and residential architect Peter Marino.

Q: Chris, describe yourself in one sentence...

A: I'm the dog that's happy to lay in the sun all day taking naps, but also curious enough to go out and explore the world and chase down a squirrel.

Q: What do you love most about Brooklyn?

A: Everybody is a character!

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Pizza (homemade on my pizza stone)

Q: If you could spend a day with any architect of designer throughout history, who would it be?

A: Oscar Niemeyer. What is it like to live for over a century? Tell me everything.

Q: Apple or Android?

A: Apple

Q: Finish this sentence... "It might surprise you to know that I ______ "

A: It might surprise you to know that I don't like coffee and never drink it (Sorry Starbucks!)

Q: What is your favorite writing utensil (every designer has one)?

A: Sakura Pigma Micron 0.01

JON MARK CAPPS

Our Senior Project Designer in the Brooklyn office, Jon Mark brings over 20 years experience to the table. Spending the majority of his life and professional career in New York, Jon Mark and his wife (also an architect) currently reside in Brooklyn. Talking with him about the City, and Brooklyn, I get the impression there's nowhere he would rather be.

Q: Jon Mark, describe yourself in one sentence...

A: I attempt to be passionate and genuine in all aspects of my life.

Q: What do you love most about Brooklyn?

A: It has everything that Manhattan does not without feeling like you are in a concrete jungle: great food, good creative energy, nice parks and museums and fun places to go out.

Q: What is your favorite food/favorite restaurant?

A: I’m a bit of a foodie and love all types of food, but if there was some common denominator it would have to be that I love a good steak and red wine. I’ve been to Peter Lugers but the 72oz (to be shared of course) ax handle rib eye at St. Anselms in Williamsburg is the bomb!

Q: If you could spend a day with any architect of designer throughout history, who would it be?

A: I do have a belief it is better not to “kill your gods” but given the opportunity it would have to be either Lebbeus Woods or Zaha Hadid. I would like to ask them, what on a personal level drives them to create. We all have projects that provide us with inherent challenges but deeper, what is the ideological framework they try to operate in and why is that relevant to the world we live, what haven’t they done they would like to and what do they do for fun outside of the profession.

Q: Apple or Android?

A: Apple

Q: Finish this sentence... "It might surprise you to know that I ______ "

A: ____am from a galaxy far, far away_____.

Q: What is your favorite writing utensil (every designer has one)?

A: Red Prisma color pencil(s)……usually used for mark-ups, but the lead consistency is great for sketching.

ELIAS VENERIS

Elias has been at the Brooklyn office the longest, so we know him the best. Like Jon Mark, he's also been in Brooklyn most (if not all) of his life. His two favorite things to do outside of the office? Snowboard and CrossFit.

Q: Elias, describe yourself in one sentence...

A: Someone who thinks positive in the sense that I can figure out the best way to solve a problem independently or collaborative.  Collaborating is the funner of the two and the most successful in my experience. (Editors note - Thats two sentences! But I'll accept "funner" as a word)

Q: What do you love most about Brooklyn?

A: It’s my hometown. Love everything about it, but most of all, it’s the old historic brick and brownstones that do it for me – ‘Brooklyn Charm’.

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Pizza by Paulie Gees

Q: If you could spend a day with any architect of designer throughout history, who would it be?

A: Le Corbusier or Le Courvoisier as Kris Jenner calls him ; and would ask him, how would you measure your success after being the center of discussion on the Kardashians.

Q: Apple or Android?

A: Android!

Q: Finish this sentence... "It might surprise you to know that I ______ "

A: …am a CAD monkey!!

Q: What is your favorite writing utensil (every designer has one)?

A: Clutch Pencil (fatter version of the 2mm lead holder)
