We like to write a brief summary each year welcoming the new colors of the year. These selections come from paint companies like Pantone, Sherwin-Williams, and Behr. 2023’s palette is shaping up to be be a mix of warmer neutrals and vivacious reds and pinks. We are excited to incorporate these colors and see what other designers create with them!

Pantone – Viva Magneta 18-1750

“Reds are power colors that celebrate life. As a bright, crimson red, Viva Magenta balances boldness with a feeling of fun. This dynamic mix exudes rebellion, but not at the expense of softness. It embodies an expression of fierce grace, inspiring us to show up with confidence and humanity. The digital space has accelerated globalization, and as a result, we are more deeply connected to each other than ever before. We can never fully understand what lies beneath the surface of the friends and strangers we meet, but we can always work to deepen our empathy. The Color of the Year 2023 speaks to our desire to take on new challenges and try the unconventional while meeting others with compassion.”

Sherwin-Williams – Redend Point SW 9081

Sherwin-Williams describes Redend Point as a “minimal, calming, intriguing, versatile, and inviting” color. They say it pairs best with “other warm, earthy, hues,” and “creates a comforting backdrop for the everyday moments that matter.”

Benjamin Moore – Raspberry Blush 2008-30

Like Viva Magenta from Pantone, Raspberry Blush is another color of the year on the pinkish/red end of the spectrum. As Benjamin Moore describes it, a “vivacious shade of coral tinged with pink, this electric hue is the definition of charismatic color.”

Behr - Blank Canvas DC-03

Behr’s Blank Canvas “renews every room of the home.” They say in entries and hallways it can “create a welcoming atmosphere,” in the living room, comfort, in the kitchen, “a bright, fresh, feeling,” in the bedroom “relaxation,” and in the bathroom a “bright and modern” feeling.

Dunn Edwards - Terra Rose DE5096

Dunn Edwards’ color of the year is a “deep rosy pink hue with a touch of terra-cotta influence that exudes confidence, creativity, and coziness. The high chroma cinnamon rose hue is strong, yet approachable and acts as a refreshing neutral updated to browns and burgundies.” Their quote for the color reads, “Your dreams open like a flower, naturally optimistic, promising they will somehow explain the impossible. Warm, sun-kissed, nostalgic, yet ready for what’s to be.”
