Karen Swoverland | Chief Growth Officer

With extensive IT management experience and an undergraduate degree in studio art, Karen Swoverland easily merges “practical” with “beautiful” in her work for NewStudio Architecture. “I’m a natural organizer,” Karen says, and her approach helps clients and staff to discern goals and define strategies. She’s also an accomplished conversationalist, the kind you’re happy to find at a party. “I was born in Hawaii and lived in four other states prior to moving to Minnesota; I enjoy meeting new people and love asking a lot of questions.”

Karen’s interest in NewStudio began as a client, giving her a full perspective of the firm. "NewStudio's team worked on a kitchen renovation project for us. I know firsthand that this architecture and design firm is about collaboration and relationships,” she says. “The staff truly wants to know their clients and find the best solutions.” The firm’s progressive culture and diverse staff with a variety of skills and interests appeal to her as well. Karen adds, “It’s fascinating to see what we can design and build. I’m excited to help propel us forward.”

I’ve been banned from starting any new hobbies

Favorite Office Supply:
Fine-point Sharpies® and Super Sticky 3x3 Post-its® — no substitutes; nothing is sadder than your brainstorm falling to the floor like snow

Every Year I Look Forward To:
Visiting a new city, state, or country

Something Most People Don’t Know About Me:
I anonymously donated a kidney; I love sharing that story because people don’t realize they can save someone’s life…it’s a real possibility
