ANTHROPOLOGIE. TORONTO, CANADA.

The West Queen West district of central Toronto is a neighborhood in transition. Development pressure from the city center is on a steady westward march, and much of the area's character is threatened as the eclectic older buildings are torn down in favor of new construction. The creative vision of the team at Anthropologie, however, realized what a treasure they had when presented with the opportunity to help save a neighborhood anchor. Together with NewStudio they helped to renovate 15,000 sf of the long neglected church. By sensitively preserving original stained glass windows, Gothic arches, and exposed masonry, the history of the space is both respected and celecbrated. In return, Anthropologie is provided with a memorable, one-of-a-kind shopping experience that attracts guests from across the Greater Toronto Area and Beyond.

TERRAIN. WESTPORT, CT.

Terrain, an upscale retailer for garden and outdoor living products, embodies a fresh spirit in its brand identity and breathed new life into the cavernous 18,000 square-foot Cadillac dealership on the historic Post Road in Westport, Connecticut. Terrain's parent company, Urban Outfitters, Inc., is known for revisioning of underutilized properties. The company turned to NewStudio to transform the old car dealership into a beautiful customer experience, featuring a micro restaurant/cafe, coffee bar, two-story atrium, retail sales floor, and reclaimed greenhouse-structure turned spa.

Near Florida State University and Florida A&M, the growing College Town district welcomed the "adaptive re-use" concepts of Urban Outfitters with open arms. The structure was originally built in the 1940's as a feed storage warehouse along a railroad spur in a heavy-industry zone. The store now features the On/Off Coffee Bar, a guitar shop, and an outdoor space with a stage for concerts and performances.

Anthropologie. Knoxville, Tn.

The crumbling shell of a 1940's roller rink in Knoxville was rescued from the brink of demolition and transformed into a vibrant, colorful 10,000 sf retail experience. While extensive work was needed to repair the building, most of the original elements were kept intact and give the space a unique presence from the street and gives customers views into the soaring barrel-vaulted sales floor.
