Jon Mark Capps | Architectural Designer

Architecture is born from a strong concept (or concepts) in the built form with the ability to create a critical discourse of where we are as a society. It reflects our aesthetic values and technical capabilities while being both poetic and inspiring. I have been very fortunate to work with some of the most dynamic thinkers in our profession on both national and internationally acclaimed projects ranging in scale from high-end custom residential, educational, and cultural projects to airports and large-scale mixed-use projects.

Every project has a series of inherent challenges requiring due respect for our clients’ visions and economic constraints. By thinking outside the box and investigating beyond convention, we can develop a successful project that shines new light on what is possible. This is one of the values I have in common with the team at NewStudio Architecture. We revere Architecture as a noble profession that involves intensive, thoughtful, and creative work that is environmentally sensitive and aesthetically inspiring. I am thrilled to be part of such a progressive group.

Somethings You Might Not Know About Me:

  • I grew up surfing in Florida; while I have lived in New York for 25+ years, I do not consider myself a "New Yorker."
  • I love fly fishing, especially in Patagonia, Argentina.
  • My father was a classical musician, so music is a big part of my life. I enjoy all forms from classical to alternative to current electronic.

Favorite Place:
Oh, there are so many! I love both nature and the city environments, both mountains and beaches. Some places dear to my heart: the Swiss Alps; Patagonia, Argentina; Florence, Italy; St. George Island, Florida; and the beach in Montauk.

Favorite Office Equipment:
The 3D printer we are getting, right Melissa? :) Also, carmine red Prismacolor® pencils; their lead consistency is amazing for sketching.

When I’m not at NewStudio, I am:
With family and friends, or I am traveling to new and exciting places, enjoying the arts, going to the beach in summer, or playing soccer.
